6/7/14: Pacific Dental Gives Senior Couple a Reason to Smile

A fresh new look for a Corona couple who has been through a lot…

A cool morning at Corona’s Village Grove Estates was the site for Pacific Dental employees and friends to give back to Henry and Pat; a senior couple who have recently been through a medical nightmare. Henry became very ill and was in and out of the hospital for months. After several surgeries and losing over 60 pounds, he is holding his own and enjoying life again and Pat is right by his side.

Their home was in pretty good shape but it did need to be freshened up. The home was painted about 10 years ago and tale of time was starting to show its wear. The back of the home was so weathered that you could see the previous color of the home.  The weather had stripped off most of the trim paint all around the home. The once bright and bold blue gray walls were now a very pale shade.

Habitat for Humanity Riverside and Pacific Dental volunteers were excited to put on a new face of color to Henry and Pat’s home. Jenn, who organized this volunteer day, arrived first and as always – smiling. The community was having their annual yard sale so finding parking was a little tricky but everyone made it on time. Pacific Dental has painted several homes during the last couple of years. So the sign-in process and setting up was easy.

Jenn said the morning devotion for the project and after safety orientation, the paint started rolling. The morning temperature was great to paint.  The volunteers moved quickly to get the walls painted while having friendly conversation about their plans for the weekend and sharing stories about themselves. It seems natural to discuss life while holding a brush or roller.

Henry and Pat came out during the project several times to look at their home and the colors they chose. Pat was a little tentative in the beginning but by the time the home was completed, she loved the fresh look of the home. The pale gray walls and white trim were now a new shade of gray with light pink rose for the trim.

Racci, one of Habitat for Humanity Riverside soon to be homeowner came by with his cousin Andres to help with the group. They took care of most of the high trim on the home. Racci lives in Corona right now, so he was definitely helping his neighbor.

The volunteers from Pacific Dental made a difference in Henry and Pat’s life today. They gave them a new look for their home and showed that we all can help our neighbors if we only give of our time, effort, and compassion.

Henry and Pat’s neighbors driving or walking by gave them the thumbs up and the looks good approval. When it was all done, the couple took a picture with the volunteers that were still smiling.

Thank you Pacific Dental volunteers you make it easy to smile when you do such great work for others!
