2/23/13: Pick Group & HFH Families working together.

2/23/13: Pick Group & HFH Families working together.

The Riverside PICK Group picked a great day to volunteer with habitat Riverside on the 23rd. The Pick Group is a group of young professionals looking to get more involved as leaders in the Riverside community and they showed their leadership skills and dedication to their community while painting the home belonging to Bobbi in the Corona Palms Mobile Home Community in the Riverside County area between Riverside and Corona. Bobbi is a senior relying only on Social Security for income so hiring a painting contractor was out of the question for her.

Joining in the fun were Janet and Beatrice, both future Habitat homeowners who are busy working on their sweat equity before they get to purchase their homes. They brought along family and friends to help as well and the whole group got along just great. Judging form the joking and teasing going on, you would have thought this crew had known each other forever! But their good natured ribbing didn’t interfere with their work and the job went very smoothly.

Aaron and Robin spent a lot of time caulking all the holes from previous years Christmas decorations that were “attached” directly to the siding and trim. Probably NOT the best way to do that in the future Bobbi! Bobbi brought out donuts to keep everyone full of sugar and energy and that went over really well. The weather which can always be unpredictable this time of year couldn’t have been better! A little cool in the morning and then the sun warmed everyone up perfectly!

Nick took on the responsibility for helping out with the paint pouring. There’s an art to pouring paint from a 5 gallon bucket without spills, over filling or pouring the wrong paint. Nick handled it with style.

This crew made it look easy finishing up in a little over three hours. Nice work!
