How Business is Done!

Frank is a Navy Veteran who served in Vietnam. He bought a single family home in Riverside California. A few years back Frank suffered from a stroke while playing with his grandkids. He was unable to finish the front yard and was cited by code enforcement for the poor aesthetics of his lawn. Thanks to the UCR Business students that came together on February 15, 2016, Frank now has a renewed front yard.

UCR’s Business students come together to do a philanthropic act at least once a quarter.  Around twenty students came early in the morning with enthused spirits and a will to help Frank in any way possible. The group first started by pulling weeds and covering the area with landscape fabric. Upon finishing those tasks, the students had to move quickly and dump rocks and wood chips in their designated areas using wheelbarrows. Then, they focused on evenly spreading the material to create a beautiful, finished look.

Even though it was many of the students’ first time doing any type of landscape project, (UCR Business volunteers usually work on painting projects with Habitat for Humanity Riverside), the volunteers did a great job and had a fun time using the shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows.  Max Gudino, a UCR senior and volunteer stated, “I really enjoyed helping the homeowner, it feels good to give back”.
