Celebrating Building Communities for 25 Years

Habitat for Humanity Riverside celebrated 25 Years of building communities on September 21st at the Riverside Auditorium and Events Center. We could not have done it without the support of our sponsors, donors, community partners and most importantly our Partner Families. We enjoyed a night of great food and even better company with many who have supported Habitat for Humanity Riverside through our 25 Years of service to the community.

Wells Fargo was represented by Board Member Robin Hought and the iconic Stagecoach. Guests could climb aboard and get their photo taken along with a little lesson on the history of the stagecoach. Bank of America’s Board Member Patricia Chavez used their display to thank our veterans by donating $1 to the Wounded Warrior project for every photo taken. Our very own Community Action Partnership (CAP) Veteran Employment Training (VET) program employees Corey James and Mariam Plowman (both veterans of the Marine Corps) were dressed in full uniform and graciously allowed the guests to take pictures with them. Lowe’s of Moreno Valley was also present with a building activity booth that got the children in attendance involved.

Some of the night’s notable guests were Habitat for Humanity Riverside’s founder Dr. Barnett Grier and his family. Mayor pro-tem of the City of Riverside, Mike Gardner gave a welcome address followed by a video welcome from Riverside Mayor Bailey who was unable to attend. We were also graced with the presence of an original Board Member, June Hall. John Fields of Supervisor Tavaglione’s office, Senator Richard Roth, Congressman Mark Takano and Assembly Members Jose Medina and Eric Linder all presented Habitat Riverside with proclamations honoring our commitment to serving the Riverside community. Grand Terrace City Councilmember Darcy MacNaboe and her husband Jim showed their support for the Habitat Riverside cause along with former Riverside Mayor Loveridge and his wife. Econonmic Development Agency’s John Aguilar, Moreno Valley Mayor Owings and Riverside Development Director Emilio Ramirez joined in the celebration. Our partner families helped us put together a video presentation of what owning a Habitat home means to them and the impact that we have had on their lives. The evening was topped off with a ceremonial wall raising by all of the dignitaries present. Thank you to everyone who helped us reach 25 Years!
