7/20/13: New Beginnings Community Church

Overcast skies and a cool morning welcomed the New Beginnings Community Church volunteers. Their mission was to bring sunshine to the home of Charlie. Charlie is retired and lives in the Mission Village Mobile Home Park located in Riverside. His home was last painted 17 years ago and time had taken its toll on the home; the aqua trim was faded and the white walls were stained.

NBCC volunteers came out this past Saturday to help Charlie even though it was sprinkling on their drive in. Most of the volunteers have painted with us many times before, which made the setup and prep work a breeze. Bruce, who organizes the group’s volunteer days, delivered the devotion for the day. This home was truly a “Brush with Kindness” because the exterior walls had smaller than usual channels and the mini rollers did not work that well. Everyone had to finish their work with a brush, but all the volunteers did it with smiles. AnaLisa and Adriana, Habitat’s summer interns, jumped in to help paint and took photos in between. Both of them had fun but got more on their clothing than past paint days.

The colors of Charlie’s home were a sunny muted yellow for the walls and latte brown for the trim which definitely gave a modern look to the home. The NBCC group finished the home in only 4 hours. Just as they were helping load the truck and finishing up, the sprinkles started again. Luckily, the summer rain held off long enough for the home to be completed and dry.

Thank you New Beginnings Community Church volunteers you did great work and brightened up Charlie’s home and day!
