3/31/12: Riverside Airshow

Riverside Airport’s 20th Annual Air Show began as a ‘ground’ show due to spring drizzles and clouds.  So to burn off some of that cloud cover they brought the “Smoke-n-Thunder” Jet Car to the runway.  Those jet engines certainly excited the crowd as they blasted fire and bellowed sound percussions.  We could feel them all they over at the Habitat for Humanity Riverside & ReStore booth where we were giving away reusable ReStore shopping bags and information about our discount home improvement store which supports Habitat’s homeownership mission in the communities we serve.  A special thank you to the leader of one of those communities, Jurupa Valley Mayor Laura Roughton, who stopped by our booth to show her support of Habitat and the partnership which has built and rehabilitated 28 homes for low-income families (including two veterans and their families) and repaired over 20 mobile homes in the city of Jurupa Valley.

Eventually the skies cleared and the show began with Riverside Police Department’s helicopter chase and K9 demonstration, it sure made you glad you were on their side!  The “Heritage Flight,” pairing the USAF’s modern A-10 with the vintage P-38 made everyone pause to honor America’s proud tradition of service as the entire event was dedicated to our veterans and their many sacrifices.  Habitat Riverside & the Riverside ReStore were privileged to share in the day of commemoration and celebration.

Until next year, we leave you with the words of Amelia Earhart “Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace”.  Thank you and safe flying!
