The Cobian’s Receive Their Keys!

The Cobian’s Receive Their Keys!

The Cobian family recently received the keys to their Habitat home and got a first look at their newly finished home. Located in the City of Jurupa Valley,  which has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a backyard with fruit trees. Pedro, father and husband, has worked for Second Harvest Food Bank for 10 years.  One daughter just graduated high school while the other still attends.

For the past sixteen years, this family of four have been renting a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment.  During the home visit, the parents were asked if they would mind relocating their family to the City of Jurupa Valley, Pedro responded with, “I have two teenage daughters.  I just want two bathrooms please.” After attending first time home buyer workshops and volunteering with Habitat as a part of their “Sweat Equity”. Pedro Cobian and his family finally got their wish.

Pedro and Carolina were able to afford their home purchase through Habitat Riverside because of the Economic Development Agency’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program.  This program funded the purchase of 17 bank-owned, foreclosed homes in Rubidoux with the intent to rehabilitate the home and sell them to very low income families with a 0% interest mortgage.
