Riverside based Defender Direct volunteers helped paint this past Tuesday in Old Plantation mobile home park, finishing the paint day in record time! This home belonged to a single monther and her 1-year-old son Mathew. The home was a dark blue, and the homeowner would always tell everyone when giving directions, “It’s the ugly blue house on the corner.” She doesn’t have to say that now, now she says, “the cute beige and green house on the corner!” Kalvin, who organized the paint project, showed up with his team and waivers in hand. Once everyone was signed in, morning devotion was said and we reviewed safety standards, just to make sure everyone was on the same page.
Some of them had painted with Habitat for Humanity Riverside before, but even those who hadn’t were able to paint really well. While some of the Defender team worked hard on the sides, others armed with ladders, took care of the trim in no time! Before we knew it, almost everything had been painted and the only area left was the shed; and we still had tons of paint left over to donate to the homeowner too. Kalvin’s guys finished this and then it was time for the group photo with the homeowner who was thrilled with the new look of the home as was the park management.
Positive attitudes and strategic planning made for a great volunteer day, and in just over 3 hours they painted the entire house! Way to go Defender Direct volunteers. Habitat for Humanity Riverside will be looking forward to partnering with your team again.
