Dear Applicant(s)
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry financed through private donations and the utilization of volunteer labor. Our purpose is to build homes with families and sell the houses at no profit and no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home.
Please read the following items to see if you have an interest in our ministry AND to see if you meet our general guidelines.
To Qualify:
- You must have a housing need - that need may include: unsafe or unsanitary conditions, poor heating, leaks in the roof, or you are under-housed or rent burdened.
- You must be living in our service area – the City of Riverside, Rubidoux area, Jurupa area, Corona, Norco or Moreno Valley – for a minimum of one year.
- You need to have a steady income and acceptable credit.
- Your total family gross income must be within the *income limits for the family size listed below. The income limits outlined represent 50 to 60 percent of the current median income for Riverside County as annually determined by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
- If you are approved for a Habitat home we ask that you be willing to join in programs to learn and practice budgeting, home repair and home maintenance. Participation is mandatory.
- If you are approved we required that all adult members (18 years and older) in your household be willing to work toward the 500 sweat-equity hours required before the construction of the house is completed.
- If approved a total of $500.00 will be needed for a down payment and you will have some time to save this money before closing. Savings can be accrued through participation in the budgeting, home repair and maintenance program.
- On approval and completion of the sweat-equity and down payment requirements we will sell you the home at cost. Mortgage payments will be interest-free but include the cost of taxes and insurance. The house payments will be used by Habitat to continue building more homes for other families. This requires that you make these payments on time (non payment of monthly payments will lead to foreclosure.)
All information is considered confidential and is to be used only for Habitat for Humanity’s family selection process.
Sincerely,
Family Selection Committee
