Habitat for Humanity assists people in need with home ownership in partnership with our community. This is possible through the help of our many committees.

Construction Committee
Construction committee meetings are held at the HFH/Riverside affiliate, please call or email for dates and times. Anyone is welcome to attend. On committee night, we discuss current and upcoming projects as well as ideas to make the process run smoothly. If there is a policy decision, help3.jpgthe committee chair takes the recommended policy to the board meeting for a vote by the board.

Family Partnership Committee
The Family Partnership Committee works with families to insure a smooth transition into home-ownership. Each family is required to put in 500 hours of "sweat equity" into their own home or other Habitat projects. Part of this concept is to give the families hands-on training during the building phase. With this experience families are able to make repairs or take on home improvement projects as the need arises in the future. The committee introduces the new family to other Habitat families who also help explain the commitments and joys of owning a new home.

Family Selection Committee
The family selection process begins with advertising. When we make plans to build in a certain community, the Family Selection Committee will place ads in newspapers, church bulletins, and community centers. Potential applicants can pick up information and fill out applications at the Riverside office or one of the advertised locations. When all the applications have been collected the Family Selection Committee reviews the packages. Several factors are considered including: minimum and maximum wage for the family, the ability to repay the (no-interest) loan, the degree of current substandard living conditions, and the size of the family relative to the home we are building or refurbishing. After conducting interviews and doing background checks the Family Selection Committee will help1.jpgrecommend one or more families to the Board of Directors. The Board reviews the packages and meets the families. At the next board meeting or special meeting, (no less than two weeks from the initial board review) the board takes a vote. The family is informed and introduced to the Family Partnership Committee.

Fundraising Committee
Members of the Fundraising Committee organize events, write letters, and write grants in order to raise the capital to operate the affiliate and build homes. Some of the past events include poetry readings, art contests, and promotional sales items.

Public Relations Committee
The Public Relations Committee is our key to public awareness. They work with local newspapers and radio and television stations to announce groundbreakings, home dedications, and fund raising events. Public speaking and/or writing skills, as well as new ideas, are tantamount to success in the Public Relations Committee.

Site Selection Committee
The Site Selection Committee works with various local agencies to obtain sites to build or renovate homes. Prior knowledge of real estate and/or experience dealing with city and county offices is helpful.

Covenant Community Committee
The Covenant Community Committee works with local churches to develop tithes and an expanded volunteer workforce. This is an excellent opportunity for churches to do God’s work and spread his word through humanitarian deeds.
