Apply for a Home
Our purpose is to build homes with families and sell the houses at no profit and no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home.
"For the needy will not be forgotten forever; the hopes of the poor will not always be crushed"
Psalm 9:18
We now have two (2) programs available to facilitate owing a home!!!
The major differences between the two programs and their intent include the home's location, the income requirements for ownership and whether the home is completely renovated or newly built. Please read about our programs for further details.
Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP)
WASHINGTON - ... HUD's new Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) will provide targeted emergency assistance to state and local governments to acquire and redevelop foreclosed properties that might otherwise become sources of abandonment and blight within their communities.
Through funding from the Economic Development Agency of Riverside County we (HFHR) are able to purchase and renovate 20 bank-owned houses which will then be sold to qualified low-income families through the traditional Habitat for Humanity program. The homes for this program lie in the greater Riverside area, with emphasis on the Rubidoux area. These targeted funds will be used to purchase foreclosed homes at a discount and to rehabilitate or redevelop them in order to respond to rising foreclosures and falling home values.
More information about HUD and its programs is available
on the Internet at www.hud.gov
and espanol.hud.gov.
Read the following to see if you meet our general guidelines for the NSP Program:
1. You must NOT have owned any home within the last three years.
2. You need to have a steady income and acceptable credit. Copies of income tax returns for the past 2 years will be required as well as credit checks.
3. Your total family gross income must be within the income limits for the family size listed on the enclosed documentation. The income limits outlined represent 30 to 50 percent of the current median income for Riverside County as annually determined by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
4. If you are approved for a Habitat home we ask that you be willing to join in programs to learn and practice budgeting, home repair and home maintenance. Participation is mandatory.
5 All adult members (18 years and older) in your household be willing to work toward the 250 sweat-equity hours or toward 175 sweat-equity hours for single parent applicants before the construction of the house is completed.
6. If approved a total of $500.00 will be needed for a down payment and you will have some time to save this money before closing. Savings can be accrued through participation in the budgeting, home repair and maintenance program.
7. On approval and completion of the sweat-equity and down payment requirements we will sell you the home at cost. Mortgage payments will be interest-free but include the cost of taxes and insurance. The house payments will be used by Habitat to continue building more homes for other families. This requires that you make these payments on time (non payment of monthly payments will lead to foreclosure.)
All information is considered confidential and is to be used only for Habitat for Humanity’s family selection process. The Prequalification Application must be returned to our office within 10 days of receipt.
