9/26/12: Bank of America Volunteers

With great smiles and enthusiasm, Bank of America volunteers came ready to paint on September 26th for the home of senior retired brothers, Walter and Richard at King Arthur Mobile Home Park in Riverside. The brothers are both retired veterans living on low fixed incomes. Not an easy task in today’s economic environment. Richard is dealing with those pesky
annoyances and frequent doctor visits that come with age and neither of them is up to painting the exterior of their home.

The Bank of America volunteers looked at the home and said, “Let’s Go Do It”!  Nice cloud cover helped keep the weather cooler than normal and we even enjoyed a bit of a cool morning breeze.  Even though some of them got up extra early and traveled from the Palm Springs area, they were really energetic and eager to get busy. They got right to work handling the extension poles on the walls like they were naturals.

Brandon, who is once again helping Habitat out while he attends UCR, jumped on the ladder and handled the high trim and the large awning. A couple of the guys also took care of the detail edging on the sides and back.  The group completed everything except for a few areas of trim and the front shutters which we finished on Friday with a couple of volunteers.

We always try to take a picture with the volunteer group and the homeowner when the work is completed. When it came time to do that, Walter and Richard didn’t answer our calls or hear our knocks on their door. They were taking an afternoon nap.  Good for them!   Who doesn’t like an afternoon nap?

Thanks again to the team from Bank of America. You made a big difference for the guys and they love the work you did.
